Lubricant characteristics and performances are managed by standard or industrial organizations such as ACEA.

Leadol is a specialized lubricants business which provides innovative solutions globally in wide range of different industries. In order to get in touch with Leadol, go to www.leadol.org/contact and send a request. We will get back to you shortly.

Lubricants have a quite long lifetime because they are designed to resist strong stresses. When storage conditions are good (dry and covered place) lubricants can be kept on the shelf for 5 years. When lubricants can be sensitive to moisture or water, like EALs (Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants), it is advised to keep them for a maximum of 3 years. However, before taking action after such a period of time (use or destruction of the product) it is recommended to check the statement of the product with analysis.

In order to get advice on the best engine oil to use, try our marine engine oil selector (chatbot accessible via our products pages). In a few clicks, you will find out which product is the best match for your engine. Youcan also contact us directly: www.leadol.org/contact.

Lubricants are miscible if they use the same base oil type such as, for example, mineral base oils. They are not miscible when base oils are of different type, e.g. synthetic and mineral base oils. However, when two lubricants of the different formulation are mixed, it results in a variation of the genuine performance of each product, generally to a lower level.

In case of corrosion the first action to take is to increase the lube oil feed rate (LOFR) to deliver more basicity reserve during the piston motion in the cylinder. If this action is not sufficient it is necessary to switch to a CLO (Cylinder Lube Oil) with a higher BN. Nowadays, in the most modern engines and in line with the current OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) recommendations, corrosion can be avoided with CLO of BN 100 mg KOH/g available on the market.

Oil-to-sea interfaces include any equipment onboard a ship where seals or surfaces may release oil and are submerged in water. The VGP specifically identifies several types of equipment that can generate lubrication releases from an oil-sea interface, including:
– Controllable Pitch Propeller,
– Thrusters,
– Paddle Wheel Propulsion,
– Stern Tubes,
– Thruster Bearings,
– Stabilizers,
– Rudder Bearings,
– Azimuth Thrusters,
– Propulsion Pod Lubrication,
– Wire Rope
